Notice – Information on Targeted Emergency Child Care

Update – January 14, 2022: With the announcement that schools in Ontario will be returning to in-person learning next week, please be advised that today, January 14th, is the last day of Targeted Emergency School-Aged Child Care. Before & after school programs will resume for school-aged children as of January 17, 2022. Families are encouraged to contact their service providers for additional information.

January 6, 2022: The District of Parry Sound Social Services Administration Board (DSSAB) and the Province of Ontario recognize essential and eligible workers must continue to provide services within our communities. Effective Monday, January 10, 2022, the DSSAB, in collaboration with Licensed Child Care Centres and Licensed Home Child Care Providers in the District, will be implementing free targeted emergency child care to qualifying families with school-aged children enrolled in elementary school, in response to Ontario’s recent temporary move to shift schools to virtual learning.

The approved child care programs are required to follow the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 (Ontario Regulation 137/15) and at the requirement of the local Medical Officer of Health, additional precautionary safety measures are in place for the safety and well-being of families and the community.

The following sites have been approved by the Ministry of Education to operate Emergency Child Care for School-Aged Children within the District of Parry Sound:

Please note: Eligibility for free targeted emergency child care will be determined according to the Province’s eligibility list available here Individuals Eligible for Emergency Child Care. Please contact Lori at 705-746-7777 or 1-800-461-4464 extension 5277 to complete a brief eligibility review and to provide the appropriate documentation. Qualifying families will be contacted directly and will be instructed at that time to contact the program to proceed with enrollment or be placed on a waitlist.
