Affordable Home Ownership
What is Affordable Housing?
In Canada, housing is considered affordable if it costs less than 30% of a household’s before-tax income. While many people think “affordable housing” only means government-subsidized rentals, the term is much broader.
Affordable housing can be provided by the private, public, or non-profit sectors and covers all types of housing tenure, including:
-
Rental housing
-
Home ownership
-
Co-operative housing
-
Temporary and permanent housing
