TWOMO Election

The TWOMO Election in the District of Parry Sound

Member municipalities within the social service board district appoint Council members to represent them on the Board. However, territories without municipal organization (TWOMO) must elect their representatives to sit on the Board. There are two (2) members on the District of Parry Sound Social Services Administration Board (PSDSSAB) who represent the territories without municipal organization in the District of Parry Sound. On October 22, 2018 these members are to be elected by qualified electors for a four year term commencing on January 1, 2019. A qualified elector must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old and a permanent resident in the territory without municipal organization or an owner or tenant of land there or the spouse of such an owner or tenant. The voter’s list should be received by September 1st. At that point individuals who believe that they are qualified electors for the TWOMO election can e-mail the undersigned at twomo@psdssab.org or call the office at 705 746-7777 (Ext. 290) to inquire if they are on the voter’s list. Applications to amend the voter’s list can be mailed or e-mailed to qualified electors. The territories without municipal organization include the following geographic townships:

Henvey, Blair, Mowat, Wallbridge, Brown, Wilson, East Mills, McConkey, Hardy, Patterson, Pringle, Lount, Harrison, part of Shawanaga and Laurier

The Vote by Mail Process

The PSDSSAB uses a vote by mail process for its TWOMO election. This means that each elector will receive, by mail, a ballot, an inner ballot envelope, a voter qualification declaration and a prepaid business reply envelope. The completed ballot is sealed in the inner envelope and then placed in the prepaid envelope. The completed declaration is placed separately in the prepaid envelope. Business reply envelopes can be sent by return mail to the PSDSSAB offices at 1 Beechwood Drive, Parry Sound, P2A 1J2. Envelopes must be received at the Board offices by no later than 8:00 P.M. on October 22, 2018.

How to Become a Candidate

If you are a qualified elector for the TWOMO election then you are eligible to be elected to the Board. There are some legislated conditions under which you could be disqualified from being a candidate. If you are interested in being a candidate you should contact the Board office to verify your eligibility status and to obtain a nomination paper. You should also refer to our Campaign Guide, our Candidates Guide and the PSDSSAB Election Procedures for additional information. All nominations must be received in the Board office by no later than 2:00 p.m. on Friday July 27, 2018. If there are no more than two individuals nominated then they will be acclaimed to the two positions on the Board and no election will be held.
