The Home Child Care Program is a licensed in-home program where children learn and grow in an approved, friendly and supervised home environment. Through a variety of daily experiences and the guidance of approved Providers and trained Home Visitors, children are provided with a stimulating and nurturing atmosphere. Providers and their homes are carefully screened and approved by qualified staff. Providers follow a daily schedule with the children including craft time, regular rest periods and outdoor play. Support to the Providers is provided in the form of regular visits by the Home Visitor, an employee of the DSSAB. The Home Visitor ensures that the homes meet the required standards of Child Care Resources, monitors the children’s well-being and acts as a resource to the Providers in all matters related to child care. Access to training and resource information is available to Providers on a regular basis.
- up to 5 children can be placed in a home, including the Provider’s own children under the age of 6
- small numbers of children allow for more individualized attention by the Provider
- children ages 6 weeks to 12 years are accepted into the program
- nutritious meals and snacks that follow the Canada Food Guide are planned and served daily
- hours and days of care are flexible so children and Providers can be matched according to the parent’s needs.
